After twelve years as President and Chief Operating Officer of the Oriental Land Company, owner and operator of Tokyo Disney Resort, Kyoichiro Uenishi today announced at the company’s fiscal 2020 results meeting that ‘he would step down as of June 29, along with the Fantasy Springs food and improvement division chief. Kenji Yoshida is about to replace him.
Uenishi, seen at left, has been with the Oriental Land Company since April 1980, rising through the ranks to eventually become Director of Corporate Affairs, Public Relations and Corporate Strategy Departments before becoming COO and president of OLC. in April 2009. Since then he has led the business through projects such as the 30th and 35th anniversary celebrations of the Tokyo Disney Resort, the Tokyo Disney Celebration Hotel, Glider: Fantastic flight to Tokyo DisneySea, and of course, the massive expansion of New Fantasyland to Tokyo Disneyland.
Yoshida, meanwhile, is another longtime veteran, joining OLC in April 1984 and rising through the ranks to lead the Finance & Accounting and Food divisions, as well as serving as Director of Fantasy Springs Improvement Division. .
Uenishi will assume an executive advisory role upon his resignation on June 29 of this year. Other leadership positions, including longtime CEO Toshio Kagami, remain the same.
A new president has usually led to different management styles at Tokyo Disney Resort, we can only look ahead and hope Kenji Yoshida will continue to lead the Oriental Land Company and Tokyo Disney Resort to the top.
